São Paulo: Dafiti, the largest fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform in Latin America (LATAM), announces that its CEO and Co-Founder, Philipp Povel, along with his Co-Founder, Malte Huffmann, are to step down after over a decade of leading the business.
Philipp Povel, Co-Founder and CEO, and Malte Huffmann, Co-Founder, Dafiti said: “We started Dafiti in 2011 with the ambition of becoming the leading online fashion destination in LATAM. Ten years on, we are incredibly proud of the business we have built on the back of that vision, with the support of our thousands of colleagues. Dafiti has been a huge part of our lives over this time, but we now feel it is time to focus on personal priorities, in particular our young families.
Leading Dafiti and shaping the online fashion ecosystem in one of the most dynamic regions of the world has been a great privilege, and the decision to step away has been difficult. However, it gives us immense satisfaction to know that we are leaving behind a business that has never been stronger and that is ideally positioned to capture the significant growth potential that remains for fashion and lifestyle ecommerce in LATAM. We will always consider ourselves part of the Global Fashion Group (GFG) family and are excited to see where the next generation of leaders takes Dafiti.”
Since launching in Brazil, Dafiti has grown into the leading online fashion and lifestyle destination in LATAM with over 7.7 million active customers and EUR 575 million in Net Merchandise Value (NMV) in 2020. From an initial team of four, today Dafiti proudly employs over 3,700 people across Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.
Christoph Barchewitz, Co-CEO of Global Fashion Group, said: “It is difficult to overstate the role that Philipp and Malte have played in leading Dafiti and their contributions to GFG overall. They will be missed by many across the Group, and in particular by the LATAM team and business that they have poured their energies into for over a decade. We are grateful not only for the strength of the business they leave behind, but also for the integrity, strategic acumen, and dedication that has characterised their leadership.
These qualities are mirrored in the remaining Dafiti leadership team who are ready to take Dafiti through its next decade of growth. This is particularly exemplified by Dafiti’s current CFO and COO, Sergio Silvestre, who will be Interim CEO of Dafiti until a permanent appointment is made. Sergio has served on Dafiti’s leadership team for the last 5 years, most recently delivering the launch of its new automated fulfilment centre in Brazil – the largest facility of its kind in LATAM.”
The transition of Co-Founder responsibilities will be completed in the second quarter. GFG’s Supervisory Board intends to propose the election of Philipp Povel as a member of the GFG Supervisory Board at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in May.
